Our Goal

is to provide support to the Autism community in any way we are able.  We are working with businesses and providers in the Detroit Metro area to build standard integration supports & partnerships to offer best practices in our community for individuals with autism and other special needs.

The Importance of Autism-Friendly Practices in Business

As awareness of neurodiversity increases, it has become essential for businesses to adapt their environments and services to be more inclusive. Autism-friendly training provides valuable insights into understanding the sensory, communication, and social differences experienced by neurodivergent individuals.

Why Autism-Friendly Businesses Matter

Many individuals with Autism find it difficult to manage their response to typical everyday environmental stimuli.  This can cause these customers to feel extreme stress, discomfort or fear, and even physical pain.

Creating a neurodivergent supportive environment helps alleviate many difficulties and fosters lifelong customers.

Businesses can implement simple but impactful changes such as:

  • Clear Communication: Ensuring that instructions, information, and interactions are easy to understand and accessible to everyone.
  • Flexible Services: Offering virtual options where possible or quiet spaces to reduce potential sensory overload.
  • Staff Awareness: Training staff to be sensitive to the needs of neurodivergent individuals, ensuring that clients feel supported and respected at all times.
"As an adult with ASD I find that my friends and I will return to a business that is mindful of our sensory needs:
lower lights, lower music, less visual stimulating decor...and no one's going to throw us out for getting too excited and
accidentally yelling or for moving the chairs around to suit our needs or for an involuntary screaming of frustration at my phone."
"Businesses that we go back to repeatedly have sensory hours set aside each month. At those times they are less crowded, less noisy,
and the big one for us—no judgment if my son gets up, walks around, leaves, makes lots of noise, hangs out in the lobby etc.
When staff is trained to be ok with neurodivergent needs it makes the outing so much less stressful and I want to come back
again because we have found a safe place to go to when we just need to leave the house."

"After becoming an Autism Friendly Business, we had such a positive response in our clients that we decided to organize a
Neurodivergent Hiring event. We consulted with ASGD and were able to put on an excellent event and hire several individuals
to work for the company. One of our new Graphic Designers has such a unique perspective and attention to detail that
translate beautifully into her graphic design work. She enjoys the creative freedom her role offers while utilizing her
meticulous nature to bring projects to life. Its a win-win experience and one of the best decisions we've made."
